Julian Carmichael’s sound is a musical gumbo of his influences in psychedelic-groove rock, new wave, post-punk, and surf rock. Inspired by the likes of Beck & The Police, his passion lies in combining sounds, genres, and influences to create a sonic landscape all his own.
Having played in bands in California and Tennessee, Julian ultimately landed in Nashville to record his debut self-titled EP in 2019. This record showcases his knack for the songwriting craft, tackling the topics of unrequited love, the hollowness of digital life, and self-medicating depression. The EP was tracked, mixed, and mastered alongside Grammy Award winning producer, Casey Wasner, at the Purple House Studio. The song Psychosomatic earned Julian a semi-finalist position in the Road to Nashville International songwriting competition.
Last year, Julian released two new singles that highlighted his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist. April Showers (Let Me Go) is a surf rock inspired love song complete with drippy reverbs and sparkling harmonies. The latest single, Hungry Machine, is an evolution from his previous pop-rock style into a crunchier psych-rock sound.
Coming May 11th is a new single - Children of the Stars - a reflection on our human condition and the desire to explore the great beyond.
